Thanksgiving special! The travelers

By X

"Yay! You caught a really big boar this year Edge!" Emerald clapped his hands excitedly. It was another year, another Thanksgiving. Everyone had worked hard that day, picking berries, gathering water and herbs, and hiking to the nearby village for spices. It had been by chance they had to go on a quest this week, and they decided to just celebrate at their current campsite. After all of the cooking, hunting and preparations, all that was left was to cook the boar. When Darling puts his hair up, you know he means business. Edge and Emerald had run down to the river to change, while Darling and Isle started the fire and put the boar on the spit. "We forgot our shoes!" Emerald squeaked, coming back. "So? We can leave them off." Said Edge, taking Isle's place on the other end of the spit. "You two can go change now." Darling and Isle walked down the now darkening path to the nearby river. When When they returned, the Boar was spun evenly and quickly. While Darling and Edge turned the beast, Isle rubbed the various spices along its skin, giving it the lovely flavor they all enjoyed. Wild oregano, cloves and sage all baked into the now crisping skin. Emerald bounced up and down excitedly. Emerald was an expert at mixing potions to heal people, so he had a natural arm to mash up the berries for a jam. Darling would always spot the brightest berries first, and hold them in his shirt like a baby. All of their prepared food was placed on a nearby rock, the only table-like object around them. As the sun dipped down below the trees and the bright stars began to gleam above them, they finished the boar and settled down to eat. The berries were fresh and tart, and they went perfectly with the freshly baked bread the villagers had sold to them. The meat was moist and savory, crispy skin and delectable flavor. WHen they had finished, they all went down to the river to rinse off their greasy hands and faces. Isle was unaware of the orange haired shadow sneaking up behind him, while he was bent over washing his face. Edge slammed his hands into Isle's back, and watched him fall face-first into the cold water. He splashed to the surface with a splutter. "Edge you jerk! Get back here!" The two boys splashed around in the cold water, laughing and kicking up the sleeping frogs and turtles. Emerald and Darling just watched, smiling at their best friends. This was fun to write :p
