The tribute chapter 17. Cleaning

By X

Gracie had woken up alone. She had gotten yelled at by one of the guards for waking up late, even though none of the other maids told her too. Gracie's hair was a birds nest, so she just ran her fingers through it a few times to tame the poof. She had then been assigned to sweep the west wing, and clean out the west tower top. It had taken her hours to get all the birds, bats and general shit out of that room. She then walked all the way back downstairs, carrying tons of cleaning supplies, just to eat some cold soup and stale bread for lunch. She then spent the rest of her afternoon cleaning out a lower basement. Meredith and Neila showed up a little later to help. They were told to empty out the entire room, burn the things made of wood and throw the metal scraps into the furnace room. Gracie didn't know what the room was going to be for though. When the sun had been below the horizon for a few hours, they finally finished and headed to the showers. All of the cooks, maids and servants shared these quarters, so it was required for the showers to be short. Hot water was limited, and there were only two showers. Gracie missed her room, and her shower, and her CLOTHES. BEing the only monster always drew attention to herself, but her own personal clothes had holes for her tail. This skirt? Didn't. She just had to try to hold her tail low to the ground. Her bed was literally a pile of cloth on the ground. She had seen two boys fighting over pieces of it. She lay on the pile for hours in the pitch darkness. The other two maids fell asleep easily. As she lay awake all night, she thought about home. About her sister and her kingdom. She missed all her friends, too. When her eyes got teary, she wiped them and held them back. This isn't ideal. She sighed, too caught up in her own thoughts to hear the muffled footsteps disappearing into the now empty room.
