The Three Benjamins A low quality report by Kris .P (Apologies for AWFULLY short paragraphs on Rush and Banneker. Less information was found on those two.) Once in time, three men by the name of Benjamin lived and made history. In this assignment, I will be speaking of those three Bens. #1: Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January the 17th, 1706. Benjamin had many siblings, and in this large family, benjamin was the youngest. Benjamin, the runt of the pack, was a boy with poor eyesight. One day, when Ben was swimming with two of his friends, Ben started to swim at what were almost unrealistic speeds. Turned out, Benjamin was wearing flipper-like shoes that helped him swim at that speed. Benjamin was a smart kid. Another time when swimming, Benjamin had a kite strapped to his body to help him glide across the water while he was floating on his back. Later in his life, Benjamin had many jobs, such as a doctor, and a printer. At an older age, Benjamin had loved to invent. Once, Benjamin had performed an experiment in front of an audience of one; his son. Benjamin released the kite into a thunderstorm. Thunder hit the kite, which traveled down to the key. This electricity gave Benjamin a shock, which gave Ben the idea to invent the lighting rod. Benjamin Franklin was an inventor only to make other people’s lives easier. Later in Benjamin’s life, Benjamin had made an almanac called “Poor Richard’s Almanac”, which helped many, such as farmers and shop owners. “Poor Richard’s Almanac” showed things such as weather predictions and when there would be a full moon. Near the end of Benjamin’s days, Benjamin was chosen to draft The Declaration of Independence. In the end, Benjamin Franklin died at the age of 84 due to an illness called “pleurisy”. #2: Benjamin Rush Benjamin Rush was born on January the 4th, 1746, in Byberry, Philadelphia. Benjamin Rush was a doctor who had dealt with loss at a young age. Benjamin’s father had died when Benjamin was at the young age of six years old. Benjamin Rush had made medicine while he was a doctor, and he also help people with a disease called “lockjaw”. Lockjaw was a disease which made the jaw of the person with the disease unable to open, almost locked. Ben was a christian who had supported and helped anti-slavery. Benjamin had also helped with something called “Yellow Fever”. In the end, Benjamin Rush had died of Typhus on April 19th, 1813, at the age of 36. #3: Benjamin Banneker Benjamin Banneker was a farmer who learned how to read with the bible, and loved learning new and interesting things. Benjamin Banneker, like Benjamin Franklin, enjoyed inventing. Banneker made little wooden clocks for fun, and did complicated math equations for the same purpose as clock making. Banneker made an almanac which soon became a Bestseller. In the end, Benjamin banneker died on October the 19th, at the age of 64. Causes of Benjamin Banneker's death are unknown. Summary: All of the Benjamins were amazing helps to society, and all lived an unusually long life. (Average lifespan of their time was 34 years of age. Most died at birth or at younger ages.) The Science of The Lighting Rod: When lighting hits the rod, the rod absorbs the electricity which travels down the rod, which then travels harmlessly down into the ground, thus protecting the building the rod is attached to.
