Humans figured out how to upload their consciousness to a digital server when they're dead. You're you from the moment you died, provided you upload quickly (they figured out how to upload you but if you're in storage for a long time the 'you' stored starts to depreciate. Go figure). Some choose to interact and live with their families in robotic avatars, some decide they don't want to be uploaded and die peacefully and some are uploaded to the AfterLife program - a digital world built to allow those that pass to literally choose their heaven when they arrive. A second life where sandbox can be switched on and off at will, given the right permissions. To gain a slot to be uploaded is hard and people don't like waiting. The rich can pay to skip the queue and get in speedily when they pass, much to the hatred of a lot of people. This is where the trouble begins. Living humans trying to hack their way in early and dead people making the multiplayer aspect of AfterLife a developer's headache. Someone needs to sort this out. That's where he comes in. Arlo is an odd case. Usually, no one living is permitted in AfterLife, as it's untested and may have adverse effects on the brain, but he's one of the only law enforcement the code monkeys behind it all currently trust to manage their binary baby. Plus he kinda owes one of them a lot of money so he doesn't really have a choice.... It's his duty to find and remove people trying to smuggle in viruses, break the program itself or those in the living world giving others an "unwanted headstart" in joining the queue. With his trusty "time-out" scythe and an avatar with pretty good stats, he'll make sure this new Heaven stays at least a little bit clean.... for like 5 minutes at least.
