Silent Hill 2: This is the only installment in the sh series that I absolutely fell in love with. The others (not including the ones made by an American company) are REALLY good too, don't get me wrong, but sh2 is just... so beautiful. Almost every monster, location, and character interaction shows or is symbolic of James's character and his relationship with Mary before and after she died.
And that’s not even mentioning my favorite part of this game: the music
The sh series as a whole had it’s soundtrack composed by Akira Yamaoka, and sh2’s ost is by far my favorite. It’s less scary than the others, but each track packs so much emotion that if I could sit down with you in person and commentate over the music as we listen to it, I’d probably bore you to death. But some of these songs, dude. Like ‘Theme of Laura’,‘Love Psalm’, or ‘Promise’ just make me feel like my brain is melting.
Also the voice acting is bad (this was on purpose to make the game uncanny, but it just comes of as weak), but I don’t want any of the VAs replaced (*COUGH*TheShRemaster*COUGH*), not to mention Mary/Maria’s VA did a phenomenal job, also for a child actor, Laura’s VA put on a convincing performance too.

SOMA: One of the few games I actually played a bit of, with friends aswell. This is less about the game itself and more about my experience. Let me just say that my gamer friends watching me, the non-gamer, be in control since I’m the only one not scared as they’re terrified out of their minds meanwhile I’m busy dragging a chair across the wall while singing ‘Fear and Delight’ is a hysterical trip.

Dinganroomba (No, I am not going to call it by it’s actual name because I think it’s funny.): What can I say? I’m a sucker for murder mysteries. If you’re the same way, watch the modern ‘Murder on the Orient Express’. Absolute masterpiece right there. (back to the game franchise) The first one was good (although there’s one character whose talent isn’t revealed till the end, but it was so obvious I really don’t see the point), the second one was better and had (in my opinion) the best protagonist (Also unpopular opinion: Nagito made the game infinitely more interesting and had one of the best lines)- although the executions weren’t as sinister as the first game (the end of the 3rd trial was the worst), and the third game was even better and remember what I said about 2’s executions? Well V3 saw that and decided to crank theirs up to 11. I was so taken aback by how fricken dark the 1st trial ended after just finishing up watching a playthrough of game 2, like geez.
Oh also Makoto is a spineless simp, prove me wrong.

Your Turn To Die: Definitely inspired by Dang Grandpa, but still does it’s own thing. The character designs are kinda bizarre (why is the calm, understanding teacher drawn like a mad scientist? Why does Joe look so weird when he smiles? Why does the prisoner guy look like a jojo character?), but I like that they react to their situation a lot more realistically than dangangrandpa (still act like anime characters, just a little more grounded). Overall, I started out assuming most characters would be annoying, but ended up liking the cast in general and genuinely didn’t want them to die (Nao and Kanna were still annoying, but it’s fine).

No Straight Roads: The concept of this game is beyond creative: A city where music is converted into energy and 2 rock artists are trying to overthrow the EDM government because they banned rock’n’roll. Love the character designs. The concept for every boss is so fricken cool: Philosophical space DJ with the best introduction monologue, Mermaid vocaloid controlled by 4 middle schoolers, Child Pianist with an angry red & overprotective mom, Mass produced cyborg boy band owned by a hardened war veteren, and Psychedelic exotic dancer who speaks in symbolism and will get offended if you fail to understand her art. Though I’m extremely disappointed there wasn’t an electro swing boss. That would’ve been amazing (there are several stained glass windows of each boss in the final arena, and one of them is of a character you never see so maybe they were going to do something similar to a swing boss but had to cut the character? idk). Also the EDM version of Tatiana’s theme is INCREDIBLE.
Oh also Zuke is the best secondary protagonist. Don’t believe me? Look up Zuke.mp4 on youtube. Your opinion might not change, but eh.

Giraffe Town: Okay hear me out, this game was clearly inspired by Silent Hill 1. The stark black and white environments, the rusty/industrial theme in Giraffe Town’s version of sh1’s hellworld, the purposefully wonky controls, the fact that it uses silent hill music at some points if you listen close enough, etc.
Anyway, Giraffe Town is a work of art. Take the game of sh1 and give the protag the same level of character depth as sh2. Our protagonist, Giraffe, was born with slippery feet which makes him grow up with the notion that he’s doomed to fail and look like an idiot at anything. However, he learns to overcome his anxieties and meet his favorite singer and befriend the greatest character to ever exist: Big Dog.
I rest my case.

Maize: I-It’s a game about British sentient corn… must I say more? The graphics are beautiful, the voice acting is great, the item descriptions add so much flavor to the world, and there’s not a single bad character.
Vladdy is also the best sidekick and ‘Top Secret’ is an absolute bop.
