"Lucas Lucas Lucas!" Ace yelled, jumping around the dinner table where Lucas was drawing. "Its snowing its snowing!" Lucas perked up immediately. Their parents had been fighting again, and Lucas hated that. "Cmon! Its time!" Ace and Lucas ran around the whole castle and collected every soft thing in sight. Blankets, pillows, beanbags and stuffed animals. They had started this tradition a few years ago, and had done it ever since. On the first snow of the season, they would build a huge fort and stay up all night long, telling stories and distracting themselves from everything else. Sometimes the cooks would bring them cookies and warm milk, or pieces of leftover turkey from prior nights. Lucas was hungry, and was hoping they would bring him a snack soon. Building it was what took the longest. Ace had found an old chair last year, and that's what helped hold up most of it. The rest of the blankets were poked into crevices, tied onto curtains or weighed down with books. They finally finished, and pulled all of the soft items inside to make a big warm fuzzy pile. Ace plopped herself down, and pulled off her fancy clothes. "We have new pajamas!" She pulled the cotton shirt over her head, and smoothed out the wrinkles. Lucas pulled off his own clothes, and changed into the christmas patterned onesie. He fluffed his hair back out, and pulled the dark blue blanket over his knees. He glanced out the window, to the white flakes drifting down. The sky was already dark, and it calmed him down immensely. He smoothed the blankets out, before hearing the door knock. It was one of the cooks, with two steaming mugs. "We got you hot cocoa this year." She smiled as she spoke. The two children grinned widely, and accepted the drinks gratefully. "Enjoy your night, kiddos." She closed the door softly behind her. Ace held her drink tightly, blowing on it whilst looking over to Lucas. "Hey Lucas, i wanted to talk to you about something." Lucas looked up at her. "Yeah sis?" Ace set her drink behind her, and rubbed her arm. "Well, you know how i told you i wanted to be nonbinary?" Lucas nodded. "Yeah, you mentioned it last week." Ace winced. "Yeah, well, i tried to talk to mom and dad about it, but.." She trailed off. Lucas knew where this was going. "Well, they both said no.." Ace looked so sad in that moment. Lucas set his drink down, and shuffled over to him sibling. "So what are you going to do?" He asked. She looked up at him, and waited for a minute. "Well..they said i could be a boy.." Lucas's eyes widened. "Would you rather be a boy?" Ace nodded slightly, her white curls framing her face. Lucas pulled her, wait, Him, into a hug. "I will always accept you, brother." Ace burst into tears, and they remained together for the rest of the night.
